The Blair family ties to the Leap family is through the marriage of Melvina Leap to Joseph Smith. Their descendant, Osa Smith married Forrest Glen Taylor, father of Marjorie Taylor Blair

Generation 1

 John Wesley Leap1,  b. 8 July 1733 near Mannheim, Germany, on the River Rhine, d. 16 September 1845 in Fayette, Boone Co., Indiana;  married (1) Margaret B. Crowe 1768 in Virginia,  he married (2)  Sarah Barbara Deleow  abt. 1806.  Revolutionary Service: Military Records National Archives, Vet Record R-22681.  Served under Capt. Jameson of 4th Regt. Penn. Militia, Col. Arch. McIlroy, from Sept., 1775 to Jan., 1778, as private.  Enlisted while living in Springfield Twp., Bucks Co., Penn. Discharged at Morristown, N. J.  Proof-R. 6225. Died-Sept. 16 1845. Burried Mountabor Cemetery, Fayette, Indiana. Government Marker.  Married Barbara Dirth Leap.

Children of John Wesley Leap and Margaret Crowe:

  1. Gabriel Leap, b. 5 January 1787 in Manheim, Lancaster Co., PA,  d. 12 December 1877 in Martinsville, Wetzel Col., WV.  Married Jane Courtney 1807 in Lancaster Co., PA.  She was born 1787 in Kilmer, Monaghan Co., Ireland.   Military Service the War of 1812.

  2. John Wesley Leap, b. bet. 1785-1786 in Eastern Virginia and died Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.  He married Mahala West.

  3. Catherine Leap, b. abt. 1784, d.  abt. 1860 in Wetzel Co., WV.  She married Waitman Furbee abt. 1806 in Monongahelia Co., WV and buried at Higgins Cemetery, Lynn Camp, Proctor District Wetzel Co., WV..

  4. Samuel W. Leap, b. 24 September 1795 in Pennsylvania and died 5 November 1884 in Switzerland Co., Indiana.  He married Henrietta Guile 31 May 1821 in Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.

  1. Polly Leap b. 16 November 1808 in Virginia or Pennsylvania.

  2. David Leap b. 1809 in Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.  David married (1) Mary or Polly Wollen abt. 1833, (2)  Martha Jane Griffith, (3) Lydia Shirley 15 March 1883.

  3. Isaac Chancey Leap, b. 1810 prob. Pennsylvania or Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.

  4. Jerusha Leap b. 14 October 1811 prob. in Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.

  5. Sarah Leap b. abt. 1813 prob. Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.

  6. Andrew Jackson Leap b. bet.  1814- 1815 prob. Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana and married Sarah Ann Neal.

Isaac Chancey Leap2, (JohnWesley1) b. 1810 prob.  in Pennsylvania or Vevay, Switzerland Co., Indiana.  He married  Philanda or Perilla Todd 2 January 1836 in Vevay, Switzerland Col., Indiana.

  1. William David Leap, b. 10 June 1837 and d. 25 September 1912.

 William David Leap3,  (Isaac Chancey2, John Wesley1) b. 10 June 1837in Indiana, married Frances E. Wood  she was born   2 May 1846.
