William "J or G" Smith ¹ b. abt. 1844 in Indiana married  Susan Helton she was b. abt. 1844 in Kentucky.

Generation 2

 Joseph Smith²  (William¹) b. 2 March  1867 in Boone Co., Indiana.  He married Melvina Leap she was born  10 Feb. 1854 in Lebanon, Indiana.   (Obit: Joseph Smith, a former resident of the Lowell vicinity, died at the home of a daughter,  Mrs. Orris Ballard, near Hammond,  on December 30, at the age of 72 years.  He was born near Whitestown in Boone Co., this state, on March 2, 1867.  In 1887 he united in marriage to Melvina Leep who preceded him in death October 18, 1916.  To this union were born 11 children all living: Zemry Smith, Cedar Lake;  Mrs. George White, Hammond;  Mrs. Orris Ballard, Hammond;  Mrs. Owen Hazlett, Hebron;  Mrs. Edward Steffen, Medford, Wisconsin;  Mrs. Albert Schilling, Crown Point;  Mrs. John Hefner, Crown Point;  Mrs. Forrest Taylor, Medford, Wisconsin;  Mrs. William Roeber, Medford, Wisconsin;  and Mrs. Harvey Taylor, Cedar Lake.) He was proceded in death by three brothers, Vando , Ellis, and Charles and one sister, Mrs. Austin Smith.  He has one living brother, Frank Smith, Angola; and three living sisters,  Mrs. Charles Green, Lebanon;  Mrs. Elmer Haley, Lebanon; and Mrs. Frank Ross, Bridgeport.  Burial was in Mount Tabor cemetery in Fayette, Indiana.)

2. Dolly Smith b. 7 Aug 1890, d. 5 Nov 1972;  she married Orris Ballard.

3. John C. Smith  b. 8 June 1902 d. 23 Aug 1965.

4. Lulu Smith b. 1899, d. Aug 1964;  she married George White.

5. Martha Smith b. 20 Sep 1897, d.  26 May 1972;  she married (1) Gus Voltman, she married (2) John Hefner.

6. Mary Smith b. 4 May 1895, d.  27 Jan 1981;  she married Albert Schilling.

7. Bertha Smith b. 5 Dec 1891, d. 26 March 1976;  she married Owen Hazlett.

8. Vervie Smith b. 26 Dec 1904, d. 21 June 1981 in Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsisn; she married William Roeber in Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsin.

9. Zemry Smith b. 9 May 1888, d. 23 Nov 1972.

10. Osa Smith b. 27 Sep 1899 in Pulaski Co., Indiana, d. 20 Feb 1981 in Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsin.

11. Eunice Smith b. Indiana, she married Harvey Taylor.  He was a brother to Forrest Taylor.

Osa Smith ³  (Joseph ², William ¹), b. 27 September 1899 in Pulaski Co., Indiana, d. 20 February 1981 in Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsin.  Osa married Forrest Glen Taylor ¹⁰ 14 February 1923 in Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsin.
