Stephens

The Stephens family is associated with the Blair family through the marriage of John Blair Sr to three of the Stephens girls, Cedena, Kitty Ann and Mary Jane. John first married Cedena on 14 February 1828. They had one child, William Solomon Blair. Cedena died between 1829 and 1831. John next married Kitty Ann although no record of the marriage has been found. Kitty Ann was the mother of eleven children. There were no children from the marriage to Mary Jane.

Generation 1

John Stephens 1    b. 1788 in NC, d. Abt. 1841 in AL married Jane Unknown b. (?) probably in NC, d. Bet. 1860-1870 in AL. The family moved to Alabama before 1828. 

Children of John and Jane Stephens:

  1. Sara Jane Stephens, b. 14 Aug 1822 in Columbus Co., North Carolina; died 6 June 1894; she married John H Walters 8 April 1836 in Pike Co., Alabama  son of James and Susannah Walters, they were married by John Blair Sr., Justice of the peace .

  2. Kitty Ann Stephens, b. 21 June 1810 in North Carolina; d. 15 June 1874 in Troy, Pike Co., Alabama and buried Beulah Cemetery, Troy, Pike Co., AL.

  3. Julie Ann Stephens, b. North Carolina; she married Etheldred Sellers 24 Aug 1836; he was born in North Carolina.

  4. Cedena Stephens, b. Abt. 1813; married John Blair Sr.  14 Feb 1828 in Henry Co., Alabama.

  5. John W Stephens, Abt. 1817; married Elizabeth Carr b. AL.

  6. James E Stephens, b. 22 Oct 1820; m. Nina Matilda Wingard 28 Jan 1843 in Pike Co., AL; died 2 June 1875 in Pike Co., AL, buried in Wingard Cemetery in Troy, Pike Co., AL.

  7. Anna Jane Stephens, 15 April 1819; d. 6 July 1899; she married John Daniel Morrison, he was born 1820 in Chester District, SC and died 3 March 1896.

  8. Needham Stephens, b. 9 Oct 1824 in Pike Co., Alabama; he married Eleanor Wingard 17 Feb 1848 in Pike Co., Alabama, died 20 Feb 1870 in Pike Co., AL, buried in Wingard Cemetery, Troy, Pike Co.,  Alabama.

  9. Mary Jane Stephens, b. 1827; married (1) John W Stanley 6 Nov 1841 in Pike Co., m. (2) Canna Swanner 25 Nov 1849 in Pike Co.,  AL; m. (3) John Blair Sr. 15 Sep 1874 in Pike Co., AL.

  10. Samuel Stephens, b. Abt. 1830 in Pike Co., Alabama; he married Sara Elizabeth Hooks (?), 16 Sep 1858.

Generation 2

Kitty Ann Stephens 2    (John 1) b, 10 June 1810 in North Carolina,  is believed to have married John Blair Sr .4   in  Pike or Henry County AL about 1830 following the death of her sister, Cedena Stephens.   However no record of the marriage has been found.
